Now let's try one problem together!

Example: Fifty pounds of potatoes have been purchased. If the potatoes are weighed after cleaning and peeling, there will be approximately 42.5 pounds of cleaned potatoes and 7.5 pounds of trim.

1. Identify the EPQ and the APQ.

2. Determine if the units are the same before calculating the yield percentage. In this problem, both the EPQ and the APQ are in pounds. We can continue.

3. Substitute the weights of the EPQ and APQ into the formula and solve.

The calculations indicate that the yield percentage for potatoes is 85 %.
