Dyeing Easter Eggs

Step 1: Prepare your egg for dyeing.
You can a) hardboil the egg:
To hardboil the eggs: Fill a saucepan half full with warm water. Carefully lower the eggs into the water with a slotted spoon. Bring to a boil. Turn the heat down immediately to simmer and set timer for 15 minutes. Remove the eggs from the saucepan with a slotted spoon to the large bowl filled with cold water. When the eggs are cooled, place in egg cartons and keep in the refrigerator until ready to decorate.
Or you can b) blow-out the egg:
Wash the egg in water, with a little bit of soap. Rinse egg. Using a pin, poke a hole in each end of the egg. Be careful not to break the egg. Blow through one end of the egg, with the other end over a bowl to catch the insides. Re-wash the egg before decorating.
Step 2: Prepare dye.
Set up a bowl for each color you plan to use. Add 1/4 tsp. food coloring, 2/3 cups hot water, and 2 tsp. distilled vinegar to each bowl.
Step 3: Dyeing Your Eggs
Keep in mind, the longer you let an egg sit in the dye, the darker the egg will become. Get creative with your dye: Wrap the egg with rubberbands or make a design with a white wax crayon to leave un-dyed parts. Hold half your egg in one color, let it dry and then hold the other half in another color.
Step 4: Decorating Your Eggs
Wait for your dyed egg to dry completely. Let your imagination run wild, and add designs and patterns using any variety of the following: paints ribbons sequins glitter lace colored foil felt tip pens fabric scraps tissue paper
