Chefs and Computers

Whoever heard of a computer in the kitchen? Well, professional chefs use them all the time. A computer is just another tool that makes working in the kitchen or running a restaurant easier, the same way a whisk or an electric mixer or a bread oven does.

Chefs use computers every day, for things like:

  • Developing and changing recipes
  • Menu planning
  • Ordering ingredients from suppliers
  • Taking food orders from the waiters and waitresses
  • Doing nutritional analysis on their menus
  • Managing their inventory of food
  • Scheduling the kitchen staff
  • E-mailing information to other chefs
