1. Blow up your balloon.

2. Tear your sheets of newspaper into long strips. Dip the strips into your paper mache glue (or the home-made glue). It is best to do this over a surface that can be easily wiped up.

3. Put the strips of glue covered newspaper all around your balloon. Lay the strips both vertically and horizontally around the balloon. Leave a small hole at the knotted end of the balloon, so you can remove the balloon later. Continue like this until your balloon has three coats of newspaper all around it.

4. Place a long piece of string over the top and down both sides of the balloon. Drape another long piece of string over the balloon in a similar manner, but at a right-angle to the first piece of string. You will use these pieces of string to hang your Piñata later, so where you hang your Piñata and how low you would like it to hang will determine the length of our strings.

5. Put more newspaper strips (dipped in glue) over top of the strings. Continue to cover the balloon with newspaper strips, as before, until you have a total of about 6-8 layers on it.

6. Leave your balloon to dry completely. This should take approximately 24 hours. Check your balloon after a day, and let it continue to dry if need be.

7. After it has dried, pop the balloon through the hole at the base, and gently pull it out.

8. Put your candy into the Piñata through the same hole. Use additional paper mache strips to cover the hole after you have filled the Piñata with candy.

9. Paint and decorate your Piñata. Be creative!!

10. Use the strings to hang your Piñata outside. Take turns hitting the Piñata with a stick or bat until it breaks and the candy falls out. The person hitting the Piñata should be blindfolded. Please take care not to get in the way of the person swinging the stick/bat!!

11. When the candies spill, its first come first serve!!
